Mr. Kanishk Rana, founding partner of the firm, holds a degree in Law from the reputed Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, Delhi and also, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, possesses a rare combination of commercial and legal background. He is an expert in handling cases under Corporate, Civil, Tax, and Commercial Laws. He is also a panel counsel for the North Delhi Municipal Corporation and a faculty in the Indirect Tax Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Before founding KD Law Offices, Kanishk has worked with the Direct Tax team at ‘L&L Partners, Law Offices’ (formerly known as ‘Luthra & Luthra, Law Offices’) where he was engaged in a variety of litigation and advisory work including filing appeals, written submissions and appearing before the ITAT and the High Court of Delhi and in advising several Multinational Enterprises in the interpretation and application of tax treaty provisions on a variety of complex transactions involving acquisitions, sale, and restructuring.
He has also worked in the chambers of Mr. Anuj Aggarwal, Additional Standing Counsel (Civil) Government of NCT of Delhi and Panel Counsel, Union of India in the High Court of Delhi, wherein he was involved in drafting, briefing, and appearing with Senior Counsels and Mr. Aggarwal, relating to a wide range of laws including Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, Delhi Value Added Tax Act, 2004, GST Acts, Right to Education Act, 2009, Delhi School Education Act, 1973, Income Tax Act, 1961, Disaster Management Act, 2005, Delhi Land Revenue Act, 1954, Delhi Cooperative Societies Act, 2003, Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Delhi Excise Act, 2009, and Delhi Fire Services Act, 2007.
Apart from successfully handling cases and arbitrations in various forums/ courts including the Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court, National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, various Tribunals including NCLT and ITAT, Commissions, Boards and Regulatory Bodies, Kanishk has recently advised a major ‘app’ dealing in online hotel and restaurant reservations in India and Dubai on employment and service contracts.
Mr. Dhruv Gupta, a founding partner of the Firm, holds a graduate degree in law from the reputed Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, New Delhi, and a masters degree in law from the prestigious NALSAR, Hyderabad. He has a rich and diversified professional experience in handling complex commercial and civil litigations and arbitrations across various forums in Delhi. His areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, insolvency and bankruptcy resolutions, regulatory compliances and general corporate dealings. He also regularly advises prominent domestic corporations on matters including contract preparation and enforcement, standardisation of documents for banks and financial institutions, title due diligence and employment law enforcements.
Before founding KD Law Offices, Dhruv was associated with Mr. Amarjit Singh Chandhiok, Senior Advocate and a former Additional Solicitor General of India, in the capacity of a Litigation Associate. His profile included assisting the Ld. Senior Advocate, by briefing him on matters arising out of the Companies Act, 2013, SARFAESI, 2002, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and the Delhi Cooperative Societies Act, 2003, and supplementing the arguments through extensive case notes.
He has also handled several high profile Government matters in the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court, when he was associated with Mr. Aman Lekhi, Senior Advocate and Additional Solicitor General of India, in the capacity of an Associate. His profile included assisting the Ld. ASG, on matters of the Government in the Supreme Court of India, arising out of the Customs Act, 1962, Delhi Land Revenue Act, 1954, and the Delhi Cooperative Societies Act, 2003, etc. His meticulous preparation of cases was rewarded with the task of drafting opinions for several Union Ministries, to help them decide on the course of action to be adopted in pursuing the channels of litigation.
Apart from successfully handling high profile matters across diverse forums in Delhi, Dhruv’s expertise in the field of litigation and alternate dispute resolution has been recognized by awarding him the accredited membership of the Mediation and Conciliation Network (MCN), as a representative neutral to serve as Mediator, Arbitrator, Negotiator and an Ombudsman.
